Bold Statements

Adding touches of red to a room is one of my favorite ways to add a little drama. I'm crazy for all shades of red, but the clear, bright tones of red are what really catch my eye. You can pick a few red accents to add to a room, like these items below, or you can go full steam ahead with red, a la Diana Vreeland's "Garden in Hell", above.

Sister Parish Chair at Hollyhock

Plastic Fantastic Rubber Lamp (the shades are rubber too!)

Blowing Rock Chair at Mecox Gardens

Red Lacquer Lamp from Gump's

Nesting tables at Benjamin Storck Ltd.

Red Albrizzi Box at Moss

  1. I'm so happy to see this as I have felt red has been a bit "out" of late and I do love it so. The Vreeland room is another of those oh-so-sophisticated looks that I think takes a bit of maturity to get. That riot of pattern says so much about it's mistress - wouldn't you have loved to dish with her?

  2. KC- So true! She was quite a character; her kind don't really exist anymore, do they?

  4. Fun! I'm so glad you posted the "Hell Garden" image. Also, I love how Hollyhock shows their furniture in red, as a departure from the typical white muslin.

  9. I found your site a week ago- what took me so long? Finally a great blog with taste and style! And historical reference... I love it. I'm addicted already. The red stuff is great. I'm working on a red living room now and it's so much fun. Big props to the Peak of Chic!

  11. I love the rubber sconce! Is it for outdoor use, or just a quirky find? Great collection of stuff.

  12. Katiedid-Good question. I know that the other pieces in the line (tables, chairs, etc.) can be used outside, but don't know about the sconce. It's rather different, isn't it?

  13. That sconce is rubber...how fun and so are those nesting tables, reminds me of the ones I saw at Downtown. Thanks for sharing your red finds!

It should be "Heaven Garden!" I also felt like red has been under the radar lately and dismayed that pink is all over the place (it's nice to be unique.) I spent the better part of yesterday trying to find a perfect red paint, a blue red rather than an orange red. What a palaver, but I think I finally nailed it. Great post.
