A Weighty Subject

So I'm about to mail off my tax return, and after finding out how much I owe to the IRS, I feel a great weight on my shoulders. I feel a burden about like this:

I understand the feeling. (Pair of Blackamoor tables, Italian, c. 1920, available at Liz O'Brien)

I can relate. (Italian console tables, c. 1900, from Heather & Company)

I'm certainly not feeling this calm. (Italian table, late 18th/early 19th c, from N.P. Trent Antiques)

I'd feel much better if I were in Albert Hadley's apartment.

If I didn't have to pay so much, I might feel like kicking up my heels. (Banquette room of the home of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, 24 Boulevard Suchet; designed by Maison Jansen)

Love the banquette and blackamoor table - Jansen at its best. Notice the warming plates used as ashtrays, probably 18th C. Chinese Export. I have loved collecting these. Thankfully, we wouldn't use them in that way today, for many reasons. They are lovely for serving warm horsdoevres.(sp?)

Lisa- Good find! I still display ashtrays in my house- but they never get used!

Anon- I agree. Use them with restraint! They are fun, though.

Cute post...I feel the weight of taxation! I still haven't done mine yet. I'm an irresponsible procrastinator!
I adore blackamoors. I searched for a pair for around 5 years, but the cost held me back. I ended up with two huge bronze candleabras instead.

I haven't even started yet. I am too afraid.

Following suit here. I think I am filing an extention just to prolong the agony.

Nicely done...you made me smile. But no worries, I understand the IRS staffers were told to be very, very nice to people this year.:-)
