1 or 2 drops Noilly Prat, Chambery, or Lillet dry vermouth
Lemon peel or olive
Stir well with 3-4 cubes ice. Pour into 4 oz cocktail glasses. Twist a lemon peel over the drink. Some stop at that, and forbid dropping the peel into the drink. Others, of the old school, replace the lemon peel with an olive.
