Summer's coming to an end and soon we will be dreaming of fireplaces, woolens, and sweaters (although here in the South this won't be a reality for a few more months!). So, in honor of this waning season, here are a few breezy homes that capture the spirit of summer.

The Steven Gambrel room looks like something Stephane Boudin of Jansen would have dreamed up for Lady Baillie in Nassau back in the 1950s ... so chic ... but you'd have to wear a white pique shift and blue-and-white spectator pumps at all times :) which, come to think of it, is not a bad idea ...
ReplyDeleteAnonymous- I really adore the Gambrel room. It's so crisp. I need to refer to my Jansen book and reread that chapter on Lady Baillie's Nassau home (that dining room was magnificent!). And I love the idea of that outfit- No jeans allowed!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Gambrel room is dreamy - and another I hadn't seen before. Isn't the brown sisal a nice surprise? These are the perfect images for the last day of August. Thank you, Peak.
ReplyDeletePatricia- Glad you like them! That Gambrel room is dreamy!
ReplyDeleteThe Gambrel room was in ELLE DECOR a few years ago.
ReplyDeletePeak: Why not do a posting about button tufting? The chairs in the Miles Redd room are wonderful, and it feels like button tufting is coming back in a major way. Plus, it feels so fall in a way, no matter what upholstery colors are used.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous-Thank you for this information. Do you know which issue? I wonder how I missed this one???
ReplyDeleteAnonymous- Absolutely! Great idea. I'm off on my belated summer vacation next week. I'll post on that when I return. Thanks for the idea (takes the pressure off of me from having to think of a topic!)
ReplyDeleteI'll find out the ELLE DECOR issue and get back to you on it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anon! Much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThere goes that Steven Gambrel again! He is always able to design rooms I just love. I also like the Eric Cohler and of course the Miles Redd. Sigh...summer is almost over (although it's hard to imagine with our 104 degree heat at the moment!)
ReplyDeleteKatie- I can relate re: the heat. At least these rooms take our minds off of this unpleasantness :)
ReplyDeleteA lovely collection of please let it stay summer images...hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend Jennifer.
ReplyDelete~Kate
Thanks Kate! And the same to you :)
ReplyDeleteI believe the Gambrel room was seen in "Shingle Chic" in Elle Decor June-July 2002 -- a favorite of mine too :)
ReplyDeletePeak: you have pressure thinking of things to post???? Nah! You're the best! It's the peons like me who have the pressure, trust me. Sometimes I think that I'll never get an idea again. Have a great trip, we'll miss you!
ReplyDeleteJoni
Joni- Thanks, but it happens to all of us!
ReplyDeleteAs always another wonderful post! That Katie Ridder room is pretty terrific!
ReplyDeleteYes Yes Yes these rooms look like summer !!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite one is Meg Braff's room , it reminds me Central America ambiance : A cuban or mexican spirit .
These are all great rooms. Sad to say Bye Bye to summer, seems it just gets started and then before we know it...have a wonderful "belated summer vacation".
ReplyDeletethe Katie Ridder's armchairs are marvelous
ReplyDeleteYes, the Gambrel article was "Shingle Chic." I like the Katie Ridder room too, but the tables seem seriously out of scale, though that should be the angle of the photograph, etc.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful rooms. It makes me sorry that summer is over, but glad that 100 degree days are behind us. Hopefully!
ReplyDeleteJennifer, these are all AMAZING rooms!! I especially love the top two and the Eric Kohler room!!
ReplyDeleteLucky for us Aussies - Summer is just aroundt the corner!!! I can hardly wait!
