The Silver Fund

And speaking of china and silver, have you ever visited The Silver Fund? Based in the UK, The Silver Fund is one of the world's most prestigious dealers of Georg Jensen silver. Unfortunately, I have not visited the London shop, although I did have the chance to peruse the San Francisco operation recently. Talk about manna from heaven!

The beauty of Georg Jensen silver is that it runs the gamut from Art Nouveau style to Mid-Century Modern. You can find streamlined or art deco pieces that will add some jazz to your silver collection. Or for you nature lovers, there is the legendary "Blossom" pattern- Jensen's famous Art Nouveau inspired design from the 1910s. Jensen's designs just never seem to go out of style. My parents bought a set of Jensen stainless flatware over 30 years ago- despite daily use it has held up remarkably well and it still looks fantastic today.

I've tried to show a range of what The Silver Fund has to offer, but as you can tell it's the Art Deco pieces that make my heart sing.

  1. What a great source. I love the lattice-like pattern that reminds me of a quilted Chanel bag. And I haven't seen a dinner bell for about 26 years! I'd forgotten about those.

  9. The Royal Copenhagen store in Copenhagen has a very thorough display of Jensen. I think you are right the deco pieces are the best. The Blossom Pattern Coffee set with the ivory handles is something I have long lusted for.

  13. This is one of my favourite sources—just for looking, mind you. I'll never have enough funds to afford anything being offered. That being said, I covet the Jensen salt and peppers.

  14. Aesthete- Yes, it's browsing for me too. I would love that tea set, but the salt and pepper shakers are awfully striking too.

  18. .... I've already knocked over every bank in the area... and now this comes along.

The deco bell is... well, it beats the foam rubber pellets that I shot out of the room to demand more Gatorade and crackers.

  19. E and E- You're too funny! Yes, the bell is far more elegant than foam pellets.

  20. It's a superb shop - probably the best source for Jensen silver in the world. They used to have a store in NY (on Madison), but it didn't last very long. Interesting that they now have a location in San Francisco.

My taste also runs to the art deco patterns, but I suppose the more sinuous art nouveau designs are what Jensen is best known for.
