A Really Swell Bedroom



Okay, so the shell bed from earlier today went over like a lead balloon. Let's end the day with this bedroom designed by Anne Coyle. It reminds me of those fabulous rooms featured in the old House & Garden books from the 1950s and 60s- the colors, the zig zag painted floor, the decadent bed. Very glamorous!

    I am not a big fan of lavenders and mauves but I LOVE this bedroom. I could easily lock myself in for a week in the winter, read books and order takeout. I hope there's a fireplace on the opposite wall!

    This is a brilliant selection.

    What's inspiring: it is highly individual, and not in any style you can describe exactly.
    I love that the art is odd and mis-matched and that it hangs in an asymmetrical arrangement on that wonderful murky wall color.
    Also--the fur is proudly set out. Who knows how many foxes died in vain, but it does look luscious.

    What a stunning, rich palette! The wall color is to die for---it certainly makes the art POP. I love the adventurous asymmetrical art placement balanced by the perfectly symmetrical bedside tables and lamps. It's bold, yet still respects proportion. I'll certainly be checking out her website. Thanks for sharing!

    I have a design book 'Easy Steps to Successful Decorating' by Barbara Taylor Bradford - circa 1971. This room could have been featured in it!!! Fun fun!!

    If it weren't for that too-recent chair by the window, this might be a room of 5O years ago by the great William Pahlmann. And with the combination of that perfect dusty Pahlmann blue on the chests & pillows and the red on the bench, that certainly seems to have been the idea. Very nicely done, too.

    Magnaverde- That's it! I couldn't remember which room it reminded me of, but it's that fabulous Pahlmann room, dark, with the salon grouping of paintings.

    Beautiful. Sadly in Los Angeles we have to be careful hanging anything with glass, or especially heavy above the bed, as, thanks to earthquakes we might wake up with a picture frame around our necks!

    I saw this room in person at The Merchandise Mart and it was lovely. Perfect for a real life Carrie Bradshaw. One with money to burn as the upholstery fabric was silk velvet.
