Have you ever wanted to get inside the head of your favorite designer? Or wanted to know specifically what inspires them and influences their design? If so, Inspired Styles is sure to answer these questions for you.
Featuring a group of designers who have designed fabric collections for Kravet and Lee Jofa (including Eric Cohler, Alexa Hampton, Barbara Barry, Suzanne Rheinstein, Allegra and Ashley Hicks, and Kelly Wearstler), the book focuses on each designer's style (as explained in their own words) as well as the colors, places, and things that inspire them. Each designer has also answered a Q&A on what they deem as their favorites. Did you know that Wearstler's favorite ice cream is Baskin Robbins Peanut Butter 'n Chocolate? Or that Suzanne Rheinstein loves Mish New York jewelry? Or that Alexa Hampton's favorite hotel is the Gritti Palace in Venice (I agree!).
And with images of the designers' work and artful vignettes of inspiration, the reader can't helped but be inspired too!

What inspires Allegra and Ashley Hicks? Why the Trevi Fountain and books, to name a few.

I love how Assouline decided to do the inspiration boards and collages.
ReplyDeleteGreat post as always!

Courtney- I agree. That's what makes this book so fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah :)
ReplyDeleteI love these boards.I worked in a fasion trend office in paris and I loved the way poeple did their collages and what came out to these funny combinations.I hope I made myself clear ?
ReplyDeleteI often think that an inspiration board would have helped me make a few better decisions. They always seem so daunting to me, I wouldn't know where to begin. Nice to see how the pros do things. Now to get all the cut sheets crammed into my notebooks out into the light!
ReplyDeleteE and E- I like the idea of them too, but I actually don't have one myself. All of my cut sheets are in numerous notebooks too!
ReplyDeleteI love it!!! What a great idea for a book and it does seem really inspiring!! Can't wait to get one :)

ReplyDeleteGeez- I swear - I don't have room for one more book!!! There are stacks of books I have yet to even read! I can't keep up anymore. I give up. :)

Joni
Joni- I feel your pain. I am currently quite overwhelmed with all of these fabulous books!
ReplyDeleteAnother one for my wishlist! I just received Timeless Interiors - the new book on Axel Vervoordt, and the French Moderne one is on the way...I keep getting emails from Amazon delaying the Tony Duquette book, so I've given up getting it this year. Oh well. Might do a bit of a binge buy in early new year!
ReplyDeleteI did not realize this was the subject matter of this book. How interesting. (All of the new books are swimming in my head, there are so many). I do love knowing what inspires people.
ReplyDeletewhat a GREAT find. this will go in my 'and one for me' shopping cart today when i order for folks off of amazon.
