Over the last year, I have lectured at antiques shows, museums, women's groups, and cultural events. My speaking engagements have kept me on the road for much of the year, and yet, I have loved every minute of it. Speaking about design and design history excites me, and I believe that my enthusiasm for the subject comes through in my lectures.
I am currently working on my 2015 lecture schedule. If you are organizing an event and are looking for a speaker who can both entertain and educate an audience, I hope that you will keep me in mind. Not only do I speak about classic design and watershed moments in design history, but I also pepper my talk with anecdotes about some of the twentieth century's most stylish legends, including Nan Kempner, Billy Baldwin, and Cecil Beaton.

Jennifer, I for one would love to hear you speak about design and design history. It is a gift to keep an audience captivated!

Having guests to tea involves having guests who don't work or have children coming home from school at the "tea hour". I usually have a couple of friends for tea at least once each winter. I have an old rolling trolley/tea cart I inherited from my mother. I bring it in to the living room in front of the fire, and we have tea. I usually make homemade scones and serve them with clotted cream and jam, and I make a few sandwiches and buy a few tea cookies from Whole Foods. I have one of those silver stands used for tea in restaurants in London and use the as well as a china teapot with an antique cozy, and china plates/silver cream/sugar. I don't use my silver tea set as it's so large it's more appropriate for a formal tea served from the dining room table.
ReplyDeleteI do serve myself tea most afternoons in the winter. I make a jar of Russian Tea mix (recipe came from my then 4 yr old daughter's nursery school class - she's now 42!), and put on the electric kettle and make a class mug of tea. Sometimes, I allow myself a simple tea cookie with it, but usually it's just the tea. It really is a ritual that is a true pick-me-up!
