Last week I attended a party for Hutton Wilkinson, his beautiful jewelry line, and his new book More Is More: Tony Duquette. More is more, and during the party I kept thinking "I want more!" Like this:
Sadly, that wasn't going to happen so I ended up buying this:
But don't think that the book was a consolation prize. I haven't yet finished the book, but so far I'm thoroughly enjoying it. More than one person has said that "More is More" is even better than the first Tony Duquette book. I'll let you know when I finish it. The photos are absolutely gorgeous. Want to take a look?
There is also a limited edition set of both books in a slipcover case finished in "Gemstone", the malachite fabric from the Tony Duquette collection for Jim Thompson.
That's also "Gemstone" on the table as well. The hostess' beautiful house featured other Jim Thompson/ Tony Duquette fabrics, including "Gemstone" in the beige colorway as well as:
"Golden Sunburst". In fact, one smart guest had a skirt made of this print in the silvery color. She said it doesn't wrinkle!
And now for the gratuitous vanity shot of Hutton and me. Naughty Hutton made sure we had our picture taken in the bedroom. I think he said something very funny, which explains the enormous grin on my face.
What a FaBuLous sketch-also love that Gemstone fabric! Think I'll head over Amazon and add that set to my wish list. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThe book must be gorgeous I think!!
ReplyDeleteNice picture of you and Mr Hutton!
Greet
what a fun night that was! all of Jim Thompson's fabrics are divine!
ReplyDeleteCan't get enough of Tony!
ReplyDeleteI am going to get a copy of the book today. Thanks for the teaser.
I loved the first book...now I do need to put the second on my Xmas list. Looks great. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get that book!
ReplyDeleteI agree that this book is better than the first. I was simply mesmerized by the beginning which was the speech Tony Duquette gave at UCLA in 1971, the year I graduated from college. His embrace of his times was amazing almost as the great sweep of ideas he fashioned into that sweep. Do you know if there is a recording of his giving this speech? You look lovely by the way. I think TD would have approved of the pattern!
ReplyDeleteMore Is More is a must read for anyone with even a slight interest in Duquette. The earlier Tony Duquette book is great, but More Is More is a wonderful glimpse behind the scenes of his life. I read it (yes, the text) from cover to cover.
ReplyDeleteJennifer- The necklace looks very similar to the one that Anna Wintour was wearing in the new movie The September Issue. I love it (the necklace) too!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read More & More, xv.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Do you know where we can find the special edition version?
ReplyDeleteSo tantalizing! I posted on this (and a bunch of his jewelery) a few weeks ago, but I hadn't gotten to see inside the book so THANK YOU! The double set is amazing with the gemstone pattern. What an incredibly exciting event to attend - your pic turned out great (love the earrings). I'd be smiling big too!
ReplyDeleteThat set goes on my Christmas list....I had the honor of working with Tony years ago - and I'm sure Hutton was up to his usual tricks -that's one big smile! You look bella
ReplyDeleteOh that Hutton!
ReplyDeleteIsn't he divine??? He could make you laugh if your neck were in the guillotine!!!!!!!
I've been asked 200 times since I met Hutton 25 years ago?
"If you were stranded on a desert island and you could pick one person: who would you pick?"
HUTTON!! IT IS TRUE!! HE KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERYTHING; WANTS TO SHARE AND LAUGH AND HAVE FUN!
He knows more than any other human.
Alas; I would never separate him from Ruthie! We would have to have her there too! And all the dogs!
Theirs and mine!
So; I can't answer the question! (1 person)!
I stay away from boats!
Hutton is beyond divine!
My husband and I are actually IN THAT BOOK!!
BRAG BRAG!!!
Page 214! I am the pig right smack in the middle with a red top and an amazing Tony necklace!
My husband is in the upper right corner! I think he is a fox! (He IS a fox in real life; I think this mask was a fox!)
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PARTY EVER ON THIS EARTH.
We were so lucky to be there! Tony and Hutton had a village in India working for an entire year doing the decorations for that party. (see page 212)
If I only had one book to take to the desert island?
YES!! MORE IS MORE!!!
Love the sketch also, and the slip case is beautiful.
