Is it just me, or does blue and white seem to be one of the most popular color combinations for bedrooms? Certainly it makes sense- blue is soothing and serene (very important in a bedroom!) and white is clean and calming. On top of that, there are so many great blue and white prints that just seem so perfect for bedrooms. I think it's safe to say that a floral print for the bedroom is one of the most popular options. Soft blue and white is a very traditional and classic choice, but if you want to punch up your bedroom with some zing, why not try a turquoise shade like Betsy Burnham does below?

The use of turquoise in this bedroom gives this bedroom a little more energy than a paler shade would. (Design by Betsy Burnham.)

Love the Charlotte Moss room and the Betsy Burnham! The BB one looks like Doris Day is just about to breeze through the door wearing a big hat. Timeless chic!
ReplyDeleteLinda- What a perfect image! I love Doris Day :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post. My own bedroom is blue and white....I will always have a blue and white bedroom!
ReplyDeleteSarah- Me too! I've always had a blue bedroom.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most beautiful blue-and-white rooms in design history isn't a bedroom, but I thought I'd bring it to your attention anyway. It was the Salon Bleu of Verrières-le-Buisson, the country house of the Vilmorin seed family, outside of Paris. Its most famous member was the novelist and femme fatale Louise de Vilmorin, who decorated the salon en suite with a handprinted blue-and-white cotton now called Verrières and made by Brunschwig & Fils (fabric number 7592-04). Ravishing then (in the 1950s) and ravishing now.
ReplyDeleteI could live in the first bedroom and never leave it. I love everything about it. Oh to have a large bedroom with space for a writing desk and that wonderful chaise lounge. The oversize books used for a side table are great.
ReplyDeleteVery luxurious and very Chic.
Excellent post!!!
Anonymous- Oh my goodness! That sounds incredible; I'm off to Google now to find photos of this room. Thank you so very much for this information as I'm always trying to expand my knowledge of design history. Many thanks!
ReplyDeletePatricia- I do think that room is particularly pretty too!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful rooms! Love the classic blue and white toile, of course -- but how creative to include the fresh turquoise room as well. Gorgeous wall design on that one! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteDesign Talk- Thank you for your comment!

Melanie- I LOVE french blue! That would be great- the room sounds incredible! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh, I just love blue and white!!! But you probably know that already :) These are great images. I'm loving the Todd Romano room :)

All the rooms are lovely. The child's room, by Meg Braff, is beyond perfect. What a wonderful way to help develop a child's aesthetic.
ReplyDeleteKate- I love anything from Todd Romano, and I would give my right arm for those paisley Porthault linens!
ReplyDeletePT- Absolutely!!!!
ReplyDeleteH of B&C- I agree- it's perfect for a child's room. Nothing contrived, but a sophisticated look that a child could understand.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it interesting that in the Betsy Burnham room, there are really only 4 stripes (that I can see) of turquoise on the wall/ceiling--then the chaise, bolsters and lamp--other than that, the room would be almost entirely white (save the fabulous red chandelier!). It's amazing what a difference accessories make--because my impression of the room overall is very "turquoise". Love it.
ReplyDeleteLaura- You hit the nail on the head! So true- very little turquoise when compared to the white, but the color is so vivid that you see blue as being the main color.
ReplyDeleteall of them are so pretty, but that Charlotte Moss room is a classic, so timeless.
ReplyDeleteYikes, you beat me to it!! haha LOVE the Moss - the best is the touches of pink, so perfect, she is at the top of her game! PLUS, the B*F fabric Verrieres is one of their most famous. Mario B. did a famous bedroom, I think for Kips, in this fabric. BUT, for the money - my mother (my style guru) had an entire bedroom in the fabric about 30 years ago including a needlepoint rug, huge, in the pattern. Unreal when I think about that. I inherited that rug along the way, but it fell apart and had to be junked!!! Thanks for the memories!!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the last bedroom with the turquoise, it feels more modern with the crisp white tables and shaggy rug.
ReplyDeleteWaking up in a blue room puts a smile on your face it has a very positive energy.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the Todd Romano Room! So fresh and cozy at the same time. All great!
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely rooms but - I am not a blue and white girl! LOL. Now if it was pink and white, mauve and white or celedon green - delish! LOL
ReplyDeleteLady- I do have a fondness for pink and white too (hence my POC logo!)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous- If you check back and see this, can you tell me where I might find photos of the Salon Bleu? I'm having a little difficulty finding info on the web. Thank you!
